What's Going On Back There?

What’s Going On Back There?

Some of you have been asking “What’s going on behind the scenes over at the National Kite Month?”

Well, to be honest, LOTS!

Nic O'NeillIn February, Nic O’Neill was named chairman of National Kite Month. She is an avid kite flyer, and a super avid planner and logistics queen. She also has a great laugh, and is a ray of sunshine on the field. Ok, to be fair that is me (Nic) typing right now, so I am a touch biased. The truth is that I came to kites in a very round about way, and I now find that my expertise and talents outside of the kite community are a perfect match for what is needed.

I took on this position in the second week of February and hit the ground running. This may seem like a really short time, but, have no fear, there is a great team of volunteers that is working tirelessly behind the scenes to get everything done. It is absolutely amazing to watch what a group of like minded volunteers can do when they share the same passion for something. We are also so thankful for all of the technological advances that have allowed us to be spread across the country and yet, still collaborate and work on things at the same time.  We have writers working on some cool information sources, some great businesses that are helping us out and burning the midnight oil, and artists pouring another cup of coffee to stay awake. So what do you have to look forward to?

Over the next few days we will be unveiling new stickers, a new poster, and a handful of other new items.  We are also reaching out to all of the organizations we can and letting them know how they can celebrate such a great month.  If you are an organization that wants to celebrate by flying kites, keep an eye out in the next few days, we will have some free kite kits to give away!  We also have a lot of information we are gathering to bring you something new, fun, and exciting for each day of April.  Imagine that, a special newsletter of sorts for each single day of April.  Maybe you will learn something new about a kite you never knew before, or maybe you will get to hear what some of the big names in kiting think. If you are new to kites this will be a great way to learn not only some of the best information that is out there, but it will also give you an idea of where you can go to learn more.

Is that all? Heck no! There is so much more, but, you will have to wait for the next post to find out.

Now, my question for all of you is “What are you doing to celebrate National Kite Month?”

Do you have plans yet? If so, have you shared your event with us so we can get the information out there? If not, well, why not?  Let’s start planning an event and lets show the world how amazing kite flying is. Let’s get a thousand kites airborne in a thousand different places with a thousand different people.  Are you up to the task?  What about being a featured flier for a day in April. Simply fill out this easy questionnaire and find your self featured on the website.
