April 29th- May1st 22nd Annual Maryland International Kite Expo – Ocean City, MD  The Maryland International Kite Exposition will feature three fun filled days of kite flying on the beautiful beaches of Ocean City, Maryland. Throughout the festival, there will be exhibitions and demonstrations including stunt and power kite lessons, free children’s games and activities, and much more! The festival will showcase some of the best kite flyers from around the world. Kites of all shapes and sizes will be on display including some massive character and theme based kites. The park district is offering this free event as a way to get kids out to enjoy what really is one of spring’s simple pleasures. April 30th – Goodenow Grove Earth, Wind and Fire Festival, Plum Creek Nature Center, Beecher, IL  Bring the family to Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve for inspiration on how to enjoy your backyard in a new way. Join us as we reconnect with nature. Once inspired, you will bring the ideas you’ve picked up home with you!  Learn from the EARTH in Spot’s Nature Playground with some fun activities along the way. Discover simple recycling and gardening ideas, and learn how to compost or create a worm bin! Learn from the WIND how to fly a kite, then enjoy synchronized kite dancing, 90-foot kites and a candy drop from the sky with members of the Illinois Kite Enthusiasts club. Bring your own kite or purchase one from our kite vendor. Professional falconers will also be on site performing with their magnificent birds of prey! Let the warmth of FIRE invite you outside to our campfire ring to learn outdoor cooking and join in campfire songs and games. April 30th – Kite Day at Mansfield State Historic Site – In recognition of National Kite Month, Mansfield State Historic Site will host a Kite Day on Saturday, April 30 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The flying of kites has been a great recreational activity in the United States for over 200 years, so take time to come out to the park and enjoy this great activity! April 30th – Alta Mira Kite Fest, Albuquerque NM, KiteFest is Alta Mira’s annual fund and brand raising event drawing hundreds of participants to Balloon Fiesta Park for an enjoyable day of kite flying and activities for families in the New Mexico sunshine. Alta Mira is a member of the American Kite Flyers Association and as a result professional kite flyers travel from different states to demonstrate and fly their unique kites. April 30th – Up, UP & Away Festival of Flight! The Colony, TX. The 2nd annual Up, Up & Away! Festival of Flight is a fun, family-friendly event featuring all things that fly including: kite flying & demonstrations, paper airplanes, birds, and hot air balloon rides. Other event activities include crafts, music, food trucks, temporary tattoos, games, and more. The event ends with an evening showing of the movie “Tangled”

April 30th – Treasure Valley Kite Festival – Meridian, Idaho.  Nothing welcomes in spring quite like a kite-flying festival. The third annual Treasure Valley Kite Festival, hosted by Epique Events, is coming to Kleiner Park in Meridian from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30. Free kites, provided by sponsor Grade Powered Learning, will be available beginning at 9 a.m. and continue until the kites run out. Awards and prizes will be available for fun kite competitions — there are no losers in the kids’ competition. April 30th – Go Fly a Kite (NY), Mechanicville District Public Library, Mechanicville, NY. The event starts at 11:30 AM. A kite workshop for kids, led by AKA & NYKE member Phil Dixon, who has been flying kites since the early 70’s. Different kinds of kites will be displayed and a short talk on kite flying and safety will be presented.  After the presentation, the kids will take home a kite of their own

April 30th – Wheat Ridge Kite Flite Festival, Wheat Ridge, CO. Kite flying is an old-fashioned yet thoroughly modern way to connect people. It creates smiles, makes us feel like a kid again, gives us an opportunity to soak up some sun and enjoy spring breezes that lift kites to the sky. As you arrive at Anderson Park upbeat music will fill the air. An emcee will be announcing a multitude of activities throughout the day that are sure to please every age. Here are just a few:There will be lots of kids’ arts and crafts in the outdoor pavilion; a kids’ chalk art festival; parachute races; drawings for free kites; whacky awards: clowns; hula hoops; and food vendors. The Wheat Ridge Police Department will be performing car seat safety inspections and replacement, as needed. There will be numerous information booths about child safety, free face painting and a balloon twister. April 30th – May 1st Kite Days Terhune Orchards, Princeton, NJ, Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1, are Kite Days at Terhune Orchards on Cold Soil Road in Lawrenceville. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., kids can make and decorate their own or use pre-made kites to fly in the 10-acre pasture, with the farm animals looking on. Music, games, sheep-shearing, pony and wagon rides, and lots of food are also on the schedule, along with wine-tasting and more. Admission is $5 for ages three and up.
